In December 2019, consumer prices nationwide rose by 4.5% over the same period last year. Among them, cities rose 4.2%, rural areas rose 5.3%, food prices rose 17.4%, non food prices rose 1.3%, consumer goods prices rose 6.4%, and service prices rose 1.2%.

In December, the consumer price of the whole country was flat. Among them, the city was flat, the rural area decreased by 0.1%, the food prices dropped by 0.4%, the non food prices rose by 0.1%, and the prices of consumer goods and services were flat.

Throughout 2019, consumer prices nationwide rose 2.9% over the previous year.

I. Changes in prices of goods and services year-on-year

In December, the price of food and alcoholic drinks increased by 12.9% over the same period last year, affecting the CPI (consumer price index) by an increase of about 3.82 percentage points. In the food industry, the price of animal meat increased by 66.4%, which affected CPI's rise by about 2.94 percentage points, of which pork prices rose by 97%, which affected CPI's rise by about 2.34 percentage points. The price of fresh vegetables rose by 10.8%, which affected CPI's rise by 0.26 percentage points. Egg prices rose 6.2%, which affected CPI's rise by about 0.04 percentage points; the price of aquatic products increased by 1.3%, which affected the CPI's rise by about 0.02 percentage points; the increase in grain prices 0.6%, which affected CPI's rise by about a percentage point; and the decline in fresh fruit prices affected the decline of CPI by about a percentage point.

The other seven categories of prices rose six over the same period. Other items and services, health care, education, culture and entertainment prices rose by 4.4%, 2.1% and 1.8% respectively, while clothing, housing, daily necessities and services prices rose by 0.8%, 0.5% and 0.4% respectively, while traffic and communications prices fell 0.7%.

Two. Price fluctuation of commodities and services

In December, the price of food and alcoholic drinks decreased by 0.2%, which affected CPI by about 0.05 percentage points. In the food industry, egg prices dropped by 4.7%, affecting CPI by about 0.03 percentage points, and livestock and meat prices by 3.8%, affecting CPI by about 0.28 percentage points, of which pork prices dropped by 5.6%, affecting CPI by 0.27 percentage points, while fresh vegetable prices rose by 10.6%, affecting CPI by 0.25 percentage points, while fresh fruit prices rose by 0.6%, affecting CPI by about 0.01 percentage points.

The other seven categories of prices rose four, flat, and two respectively. Among them, transportation and communications, medical care prices rose 0.2%, living, daily necessities and services prices rose by 0.1%; education and entertainment prices were flat; clothing, other goods and services prices fell by 0.1%.
