Leather Development Center said that through processing to the wet blue stage, the added value of raw leather and fur can be increased by 80%, while the processing to the billet leather stage can add an additional value of 200%, and processing to leather can increase the additional value of 400%.


In the year when leather and fur were applied to the 40% export tax rate, Kenya's leather exports increased by 54%. At present, about 98% furs (and 96% raw skins) produced in Kenya are processed to wet blue stage at least. In 2004, the proportion was only 56%.
